While on maternity leave, I noticed a new café opening nearby and used it as a creative prompt. I developed a full brand and customer experience strategy, covering social media, photography, dining experience, and community engagement.

It was an unpaid, self-driven piece of work I created for myself rather than for the café, as a way to keep my skills fresh and try out new ideas during a career break.

After being in a car crash as a teenager, I started a youth road-safety initiative, developing social media campaigns, ideas for influencer partnerships, school workshops, and community engagement, along with ways it could be measured and supported through funding and sponsorship.

The initiative gained traction with government advocates and industry supporters, but it didn’t continue after COVID, Department of Education blockers, and family circumstances.

I’m still really proud of this project.

While visiting family in Scotland, a friend who is a partner at a law firm asked me to look at their website. I created a set of recommendations focused on brand, user experience, and content, from refreshed photography and taglines through to navigation and calls-to-action.

It was an unpaid favour, but it gave the firm practical ideas for improving their site and gave me the chance to apply my skills in

a sector I hadn’t worked in before.
